Kathina Ceremony

We took an adventure to visit the Buddhist temple in Melbourne, FL for their annual Kathina Ceremony.

"The Kathina Festival is a traditional joyous Buddhist festival...a day of reflection, offerings to the monks, and the offering of "Money Trees" to the temple for its continued maintenance. "Money Trees" Individuals or groups will combine efforts by collecting cash donations for the maintenance of their local temple. Such donations are vividly arranged on a "money tree" which looks rather like a colorful Christmas tree decked with money as the "ornaments". The money tree is ceremoniously paraded around the temple, led by a team of drummers and musicians. In this way, the lay-people of Thailand reaffirm their faith and, in a joyous fashion, bring gifts to Buddha and his servants."
